Device-level and Edge-Side Innovation for 6G Wireless Networks

With the advent of revolutionary 5G services and technologies, a huge proliferation in the scale and types of network devices, products, services, applications, and businesses is anticipated. This tremendous expansion offered by 5G is envisioned to play a vital role in the advancement of society and the expansion of the world economy in Beyond 5G (B5G) era. Future B5G/6G networks are expected to support a massive number of wireless devices/sensors/machines with enhanced capabilities of the communication link. Evolution in 5G Ultra-Reliable and Low-Latency communication (URLLC) services towards Enhanced-URLLC (e-URLLC) in B5G/6G is anticipated to realize the end-to-end latency of about 0.01 ms with 99.99999% reliability. For supporting the B5G/6G network targets of e-URLLC functionality, ultra-low energy-consumption, and high-capacity links, it is crucial to introduce innovation at the edge-side and device-level by addressing several device-side constraints such as power limitations, low computational capacity, and limited storage capacity as well as constraints introduced by new operating frequencies including millimeter wave (mmWave), TeraHertz (THZ), and optical bands. The recent advances in edge-computing technologies and architecture, and the notion of “edge processing as a service” are expected to enable e-URLLC in future networks by bringing the computing and storage capabilities near to the end-devices. Furthermore, potential device-level innovations include the design of efficient power amplifiers, receiver filters capable of operating at higher frequencies, efficient multi-antenna arrays for end-users, inter-chip communications via THz line-of-sight links, lightweight modulation and coding for high-speed communications, near-field communications, and backscatter communications for zero-energy devices. In light of the aforementioned, the major interest for this workshop include but are not limited to the following topics.

The workshop will feature two keynote speeches given by world-leading researchers in the field (see below). Otherwise the workshop accepts only original and previously unpublished papers. All submissions must be formatted in standard IEEE camera-ready format (double-column, 10pt font). The maximum number of printed pages is six including figures without incurring additional page charges.
